We took a day trip to Cordoba where the star of the show was the Mezquita of Cordoba – a cathedral hidden inside a mosque.
The Mezquita, or the Cathedral of St. Mary of the Assumption, was originally built as a mosque in 784. After the conquest of Cordoba by the Christians in 1236, Mezquita was converted to a christian cathedral as it remains to this day.
The interior is absolutely breath-taking. When the Christians converted Mezquita into a christian cathedral, they actually built the cathedral inside the original interior creating this unique structure.
